Santam Agriculture sponsored this award since 2016 to highlight the best coverage on the Agricultural Writers SA’s Farmer of the Year event and its winners.
In 2020 the Santam Agriculture Farmer of the Year Best Coverage Award upped the game by broadening the scope of coverage as well as increasing the cash prize.
The winning entry will receive R7 000 prize money. Entries may include reports or articles in the printed media, on digital platforms or on any broadcasting media about the previous year’s event:
- Farm visit to the Farmer of the Year winner;
- Any of the regional finalists of the Farmer of the Year, Agriculturist of the Year or New Entrant to Commercial Farming; or
- The Agricultural Writers SA national annual awards function.
The entries are assessed by the competition sponsor, Santam Agriculture, in conjunction with the Agricultural Writers SA.
