Big cash prizes are up for grabs in the Bayer Agricultural Writers SA Technical Article of the Year.
This is one of the longest running competitions available to members of AWSA and also the biggest in terms of the value of the prizes. Previously known as the Dekalb Technical Article of the Year, the competition changed its name in line with the current sponsor, Bayer.
- Winner: R10 000 + flight ticket and congress fee to attend the IFAJ Congress
- Second place: R6 000
- Third place: R4 000
Bayer sponsors this competition to reward the best entries that focuses on the technical aspects of farming. Participants can enter up to three articles. Although the competition was previously aimed only at written articles, other media entries like video or radio reports are encouraged.
When judging the articles/reports/stories the following will be taken into account:
- Use and integration of sources
- Logical explanation and flow of the information
- Current relevance
- Is the reader able to understand the more difficult technical information?
- Is the information accessible to the reader?
- Supportive material – i.e. the use of photographs, diagrams and graphs
Closing date for entries: 28 September 2020
Any material published in print or on a website, will be eligible. Journalistic material for radio and television will also be considered provided it has the relevant supporting information attached.
Contributions in any one of the recognised South African languages, accompanied with a concise translation (if not originally in English or Afrikaans), are welcome.
