The Agricultural Writers SA Northern branch awarded exceptional achievements in agriculture on 19 October 2018 at Leriba Lodge in Pretoria. Three farmers, three agriculturists and a new entrant to commercial farming were acknowledged for their outstanding contributions towards the sector.
The event was sponsored by Bayer. Pieter Smit, Marketing and Product Management Lead for Bayer in Africa shared the New Bayer’s vision – to stay focussed on the development of the future of agriculture for farmers but also on creating a better future for everybody on the planet. He continued, “Sustainability is still an integral part of the company’s ethos and we are committed to advancing modern agriculture in a more sustainable way. A way in which farmers can farm more sustainably with the latest technology and using less natural resources when producing food and fibre.”
Magda du Toit, chairman Agricultural Writers SA North and National, congratulated the nominees and reminded all present that we are confronted on a daily basis by the need to feed a growing world population. “With these awards, Agricultural Writers SA wants to acknowledge the role that farmers and agriculturalists fulfil in the agricultural sector, and specifically their contribution towards global food security.”.
